Isabel's Birthday Part 2

Every couple of years we allow the kids to have a party with lots of friends. This year we decided to have it at "the Little Gym." This worked well for us because we didn't have to do any preparation... or clean up... Again moving toward our goal of putting as little effort into parenting as possible.

Andrea did make a "cake" for Isabel, it was a cupcake tower which looks cool and trendy, but it is really just cupcakes.

The hosts took the kids through many different activities.

It was absolute chaos - but no broken bones and only mildly hurt feelings

Yes, they are still teaching kids the chicken dance. Years from now anthropologists are going to look at this strange dance that Americans do and try to search for the origins. I wonder what obtuse theory they will come up for the origin...

Elliott had a lot of fun because he was actually allowed to climb on everything... and when he fell he didn't get hurt.

The best part for the kids was the air track - an inflated track that they could run, bounce and tumble across.

The obligatory blowing out the candles picture (we recovered nicely from the Christmas candle birthday cake debacle).

They made this strange castle??? out of gym equipment while Isabel opened her presents.

The crowd. I think we only invited 10 kids or something. They say to invite 50% more than you think will show up since so many will not actually show. I think we had 50% beyond those we invited show up (making twice as many as we told the gym we would have).

The starfish dance (soon to overtake the chicken dance in popularity) I can imagine this at the church dances with 14 year old boys and girls.

The Air Track inflating, replete with screams.
